Re: Better Bottle With spigot and racking device. Whos got one?

Thanks for the input, ECHops. My cleaning regimen for my glass carboys is to fill it with PBW solution and let it soak for a day. No reason I can't do that for a better bottle, and then soak the spigot separately.

Anyone else? There's got to be more of you out there!

I still have mine soaking in Oxyclean from bottling last weekend. I usually dump out all but 1 gallon of the cleaning solution and shake the crap out of it. Comes out spotless, and no funky leftover smells. I drip dry it for a few hours, then turn it on it's side to complete drying. For some reason, they will not dry completely if left inverted.

I've got one with a spigot. I haven't had any problems with it, but it doesn't seem that much more convenient to use than an autosiphon. Just one (or six) more things to clean.

how does beer age in them? the sellers always say not oxygen permeable for atleast a few months or something. does anyone let them sit and trust them? i mean a year in a carboy and solid stopper we know is sterile and un oxygenated.

Bamforth mentioned in the HSA episode of Brew Strong that off flavors due to oxidation are pretty uncommon in unfiltered beers.

No, they are not impermeable to oxygen. They say that not enough makes it in to make a difference for a few months, and that more makes it in through the airlock anyway. I don't know anything about the oxygen permeability of airlocks so I can't confirm or deny that, but that's what their ads say. Like I said in the last post, you aren't likely to get off flavors due to oxygenation as long as there is live yeast floating around.

My problem with the better bottles is they scratch really easy

I found it best to just soak them over night with oxi clean or PWB but NEVER use a carboy brush on them
