Re: How to top crop yeast from a carboy.

The yeast I harvested in the post above actually sat in a completely fermented 2 quart starter in the fridge for a week an half because my better bottle fermenter cracked. I ordered buckets as a replacement thinking they would be much simpler to harvest from the top. So, last weekend I brewed and pitched the yeast. I noticed a raised airlock after about 30 minutes. About 2.5 hours later I noticed a little bit of bubbling in the airlock. I went to a bbq the following day and got plowed. So, my first chance to harvest the yeast again was today. I got home cracked open the lid and no krausen! The airlock is barely bubbling but I think I missed my opportunity to harvest the yeast. Now, I did have to use fermcap-s on brewday to seal the lid because I shook the hell of the wort for aeration and I needed the foam control just to knock back the foam in order to seal the lid. If I had harvested yesterday, I think there would be enough yeast on top to harvest using Tasty's method - even with the foam control. What do you all think? I have not tasted the beer obviously but, the top cropped yeast PLOWED through the ferment so quickly that I missed my window to harvest a second time.
