Hello from Oklahoma City

Sun Sep 15, 2013 10:45 am

Hello,

I am new to home brew, and just getting started. I learned about this site from one of my local home brew shops here in OKC. They mentioned this site, so I decided to stop by and sign up, and maybe i will learn something :) On a side note the listen feature on this site is fantastic, and the conversations and information is valuable!!!

Anyway hope to talk to you guys later in the forum!

Cheers from OKC :pop

Welcome!

You have come to the right place!
Any time you have any questions, just ask. Folks on this board are very knowledgeable and are happy to help.

Homebrewing is fun and the best thing about it is that you end up with beer!

For newbies, I highly recommend John Palmer's book "How to brew". He also has the first edition of that book on the web for free:

BDawg,

The local shop mentioned two books to get! That one is my next purchase for sure!

Right now I am reading
"The Complete Joy of Homebrewing" Third Edition Paperback
by Charlie Papazian

Welcome HamNerd... are we talking the meat or the radio?

-1 to everything OZWALD said. He never knows what he's talking about.

The radio! LOL Been a Ham Radio Operator (Amateur Radio) since 1999. One of my college professors gave me that nickname, as he was a Ham too.

Papazian's book is a fun easy read and is a good book overall.
It's getting dated, though.

The big thing is to do a bit of homework before your first batch and you'll be prepared.
Ask questions as you get them. We'll answer them for you. Everyone on here had a first batch sometime.

Nice. Maybe when I finally get my dipole up (just bought a house & have no idea where I'm going to put the thing - they put the power lines to my neighbor in just the wrong spot) I can catch you on the air sometime. I'm much more into brewing & woodworking, but radio's fun from time to time.

P.S. BD, you suck!

Welcome!!

Everyone should read Papazian's book...if nothing but to pay tribute to the godfather.

John Palmer's book is great, although so much has happened since it was written ( I believe he's thinking of updating it).

Does the homebrew shop do classes? My LHBS conducts beginner classes and give a discount on kits the night of the class. You can also find a local homebrew club (most are very welcoming of new hobbists and they are a wealth of knowledge).

Search this forum and asks questions...
