Welcome!!
Everyone should read Papazian's book...if nothing but to pay tribute to the godfather.
John Palmer's book is great, although so much has happened since it was written ( I believe he's thinking of updating it).
Does the homebrew shop do classes? My LHBS conducts beginner classes and give a discount on kits the night of the class. You can also find a local homebrew club (most are very welcoming of new hobbists and they are a wealth of knowledge).
Search this forum and asks questions...
