My name is Scott, you can call me Scotty if you want.
I just recently started listening to podcasts from the BN, the Session and the Jamil show. I really find what Tasty has to say to be most educational, even if I don't agree with his taste in beer, how can anyone not like Arrogant Bastard?
I have been brewing by myself since Feb of 2012 and have brewed 20 something beers. Back in the late 90s and early 2000s I brewed a few times with my cousin and my dad. Those two guys are responsible for my passion for good beer.
I waited until I had accumulated all the equipment necessary for all grain brewing. I bought an old fridge for $30 and an external thermostat for $10 and put it in a box and wired it up, somebody donated a 10 gallon igloo cooler to me which became my mashtun, yes I am cheap but I demand quality in beer. I have never done an all extract brew session, unless you count starters. My favorite style to brew is stouts, particularly oatmeal stouts.
If I may toot my own horn for a moment, I came in 2nd place in a Dry Stout competition and it was my very first competition too. YAY ME! I was less than 2 points from first place, 37.66 points was my score and 39.33 was the first place score.
I am addicted to brewing beer, if I am given 5 seconds of free time I will start day dreaming about brewing. I hunger to learn more about brewing. I recently came to the conclusion that I mash too high, I want more body but overcoming the unfermenability isn't always easy. I wish Tasty would come to my house and teach me stuff.
Well that's more than a mouth hole full of about me. You folks have a grrrreat day/night/brew
