Hi from the City of the Future!

Sat Jan 26, 2013 8:54 pm

Hi.

I'm Greig, from Hamilton, New Zealand. Hamilton has a bit of a reputation for being NZ's most boring city, so has nicknamed itself "Hamiltron - city of the future" as a reaction. Anyway, I'm a homebrewer, recently gone pro as "Brewaucracy" (www.brewaucracy.co.nz or @brewaucracy on twitter, and Brewaucracy on facebook). I've been a long time listener, very rare live chat participant, and forum lurker for ages. I thought I'd finally say hi because I have a motive...

I'm over in the US on business in April. I'll be in San Francisco for 4 nights, April 24-27, and Las Vegas 28-30, flying home on May 1. If anyone here is in either city, I'd love to catch up and drink what you consider the best beer of your city! I've been to each before, and was blown away by Zeitgeist, Monk's Kettle, Toronado, and 21st Amendment in SF, and had a good time at the Yardhouse in Vegas. What am I missing? Is anyone keen to take a kiwi under their wing? In return, I can offer mule-ing of any beer from NZ you might want. And my delightful company, of course! ;)

Anyway, that's me. Reply if you like. :)

Cheers,

Greig McGill

We're sneaky like that! :) Not sure if you knew, but 666 Brewing (Graeme Mahy) and the brewery owners themselves, Shunters Yard, also brew out of the same place. It's a kind-of odd time-share arrangement we all have.

Not a Vegas regular, but was there last year and thought the Public House at the Venetian had a good beer selection.
Gimme oysters and beer (and Durian) for dinner every day of the year...

Thanks for that mike, I'll give it a crack when there. I'm staying at the Four Seasons for work, and the Burger Bar in the Mandalay Bay shops also had an amazingly good selection. Nice staff too - very friendly and beer loving. The only issue was that their cleaning process seems to leave really intense smelling cleaner/sanitiser on the glasses, and I became embarrassed continually sending beers back, so didn't want to go back there again. I know, their problem, not mine, but I always feel like a fussy tourist if I complain too much! :)

I've just seen this is on the day before I arrive in Vegas. Talk about poor timing! http://www.greatvegasbeer.com/
