Hi I'm New

I don't know anything about brewing but would like to. Friends tell me it's cheaper than buying beer from the store. I wish to keg my beer and throw huge parties with it. I'm from Bay Area, CA look to meet cool people here and .... make beer...lol

Welcome! When you factor in equipment and time, it usually doesn't come out cheaper. You can ferment on the cheap, with cheap equipment, but quality usually suffers. If you're looking to keg, you'd certainly be spending money to get that set up. All that being said, it is a very fun, and very rewarding hobby! Welcome to the madhouse!

Welcome aboard! I got into brewing for much of the same reasons. Locally I couldnt get the tasty beers styles I liked to drink and when I could, they cost about $16/4 pack. Or even $12-$15 a big bottle. Once you get your setup you can brew high quality beers for less than premium prices at your local brew store. And many thanks to the CYBI crew, you can give your best effort at brewing up some of the best beers out there. :bnarmy:

Welcome!

I also am one who came to brewing for a cheaper alternative to the $40 24-packs of beer in Canada. However I have stayed as I personally (and have friends who attest) find that I prefer my beer over the store bought alternatives.

And although the upfront costs add up, once you're invested I find an allgrain batch costs between $15-20 depending on style.

Cheers!

Welcome to the Asylum! :jnj

Given today's prices for a six pack of good brew you're going to save a lot of money. Of course the equipment costs something but mostly it's a fun hobby with good rewards. The upside of equipment is there are plenty of ways to skin the cat. There are lots of great ideas on the BN forum and plenty of helpful homebrewers to answer your questions.
Good Luck!

Welcome. Good luck with your brewing endeavors. Your life will never be the same again.

Hit up some local homebrew club meetings...no better place to learn or meet others who were like you at one time.

If you are married, or have a significant other, make sure you brew stuff they like (even if it means putting off on your own)... it'll make things much smoother in the long run!
