g'day from another aussie

Mon Sep 10, 2012 4:06 am

I just wanted to sign up and say hi to everyone and a big thanks to the Brewing Network for saving my sanity for over a year now. I have a strange and boring job where I get to stare at the ocean from sunrise to sunset and if it wasn't for the BN I'd have jumped over board long ago. I've ripped through every episode of the Jamil show, CYBI and Brew Strong and am now making my way through the Sunday session archives. I'm fairly new to brewing and after doing a horrible batch or 2 of kit and kilo about 10 years ago I've now built a 3V 70L all grain system. So far brewed a coupla hefes, a belgian dubbel, a Russian Imperial Oatmeal Stout (the 8wired iStout clone), Arrogant Bastard clone and Jamils Hoppiness is an IPA. All were amazing apart from the IPAs. The Bastard was my first brew and the ferment finished way too high, I hit my numbers on the IPA but still tasted a bit sweet.

The MR in MRbrew is for Margaret River a little wine town in south west Western Australia. Thankfully theres a bunch of micro breweries popping up including the latest addition with a brewer who cut his teeth at Brew Dog in Scotland. Keep sharing the knowledge over there and I'll keeping preaching the BN message back home!

Your job description sounds like 'Crazy old man on a park bench'... I'm guessing that if you are listening on an iPod or similar, you feel a moment of panic when you start running low on battery midway through the day...

I'm definitely qualified for the park bench job. I'm not only new to the BN but to forums in general. Can't figure out how to put up a profile pic. I'll have a go at posting a pic of the brew house...

In the user control panel, you can link to an avatar image. You'll need to have it online through a photo hosting site, and it needs to be sufficiently small.

That would work given that WA is a 5? hour flight from the rest of civilisation. I'm pretty sure Perth is the most isolated city in the world. Look it up.

Welcome to the BN. I'm from Sydney. Get a few years through the archives of the Session and you'll know who I am. Or jump to the Murray's show for some Aussie content. Shawn gives a great interview.

geez too hard basket, you'll just have to imagine my ugly mug. You're right Perth is the most isolated city in the world and I live 3 hours from there! If by civilisation you mean Bali then yeah its about a 5 hour flight. Its also a 3 hour drive to get grain and liquid yeast. As for park benches and missile defence systems I'm actually surveying for whales off Vietnam in the south China sea at the mo listening to Arrogant Bastard clone attempt 4 and sunday sessions from late 05. A couple of months ago I was off Tanzania introducing a South African homebrewer to the BN. Who says love is the international language? Its home brewing!
