New guy from Hop country...

Hello BN. I'm New to the forums but have been geeking out on the BN audio archives for a month or two now.

I'm from Yakima WA originally. I live a little bit south of there now in Grandview/Prosser area which is the heart of wine country for this area. But we also have Yakima Chief Hops right here in town.

I've only brewed a few batches due to a divorce and moving around and having to change equipment so many times. But my last came out decent I think. I rather enjoy it. But other then commercial brews I really have nothing to compare to. So if there is anyone in the area that home brews give me a reply. I really would like to taste some other home brews and maybe share my attempts so I can find out if I'm even in the same timezone as far as quality goes.


Hope to be a regular poster and brewer and perhaps listen to some live shows and call in from time to time. Although I doubt I'll ever be a drunk of the week candidate.

Homebrew quality really isn't different from commercial beer, you can make something at home as good or better than what you can get at the corner store. So if you are wondering if your beer is 'up to par', just think whether you would be disappointed if a server brought it to you at your local bar. Not that that has to be the driving force or measure of brewing, it's a darn fun hobby too. I'm no where near your area, but I'm sure there is someone that is... BNers are everywhere. Also, if you are active and involved in the forum, there are occasionally beer exchanges that take place, which is a nice way to try beers brewed by someone elsewhere in the country.

Welcome to the madhouse...the more you brew the better you get...keep at it and very soon you will want to drink your homebrews just as much as commercial beers...

I actually just listened to those shows and was a bit sad I didn't get to go. I honestly didn't know about them in advance as I'm really just getting into all of this seriously. Although,... In my defense I was in Las Vegas that week getting married and she is the one who said I could get into home brewing again. Not to mention she was totally fine with me dragging home an extra fridge to stuff in the garage as well as taking over a good portion of the basement for my brewing junk.


I'll have to get in touch with the local club.

My other thought is to try to brew a clone recipe off "can you brew it". A beer that I can get in my area so I can compare to the actually product and use that to dial in my equipment and process.

I always think of it as "would I be happy if I bought this as a 6pack/bomber for the money I paid" at the local beer store. If its a yes, then I feel a "job well done" is in order.
