In Colorado, doing the German thang

Thu Aug 03, 2006 9:24 pm

For some reason I decided to use my real name when creating a login... must have been the beer. Been listening to the podcasts for about 3-4 months. totally hyped on the enthusiasm for brewing I hear on the Sunday show and see while browsing the forum.. F'In A!

So, I'm in Denver, started brewing a year or so ago.. still extract, think the beer I make generally tastes good to great.. interested in all-grain till Justin started crying... I myself bought a hydrometer but have yet to use it- does this mean I'm not ready for all-grain? :P

I gotta say, for the most part I'm a Euro-snob when it comes to beer... started with Paulaner, which is now my personal 'Coors' type whatever beer... love Erdinger et. al. German brews on tap (especially) or in the bottle. My go-to homebrew is definitely a hefeweisen... I print the same recipe, forget it at home, and head to the BrewHut to combine speciality grains whose names appear to be German.

though some of the micro-brews around here in Colorado are outstanding... all the Avery and Left-Hands that I've got from the liquor store that were stored correctly taste awesome... Avery's White Rascal Belgian Whit is my first choice for the nightly six.

I recently completed my kegging system... holy shit, that five gallons went FAST.

To close, I'd like to stop fucking babbling and state that New Belgium Brewery makes some of the shittiest beers I've tasted in the bottle... I've heard from one person they're good at the brewery, but in Denver Fat Tire tastes like newspaper that came out of the ass of the fat dead dude who O'D on spaghetti in the movie SE7EN.

LMAO. I like the new descriptors that I can use in the future. I can't wait to tell my friends that the beer they are drinking tastes like newspaper and all of that.
Welcome.

i thought the same thing last weekend when my buddy from Longmont was out visiting. i asked him to bring some colorado beer with him in the hopes that he would have brought some bristol beer... instead i got fat tire. it had been at least a year since i've had it, and immediately the smell reminded of when we had to roto-root our main sewage line. yes, it smelled like watered down shit slurry.

the real kicker is that after that first beer, i gladly drank another three. and liked it. the shit taste turned into "biscuit" flavor. i'm guessing because i was pretty much crocked on a bunch of rasberry lambics.

i always thought that fat tire is waaaaaaaaay better on tap, but still a hit and miss kinda deal.
