Hey,
I just got started listening to Jamil Show thanks to some of my friends near Indy and Anderson, which brought me to this site (thought I get the feed from iTunes). I listen to my iPod every day, far more than I ever thought I would when I got it, so a brew podcast is a natural for me. I am a longtime HBD reader, and I feel I learned a lot from the folks on that list.
I have been brewing since 1994, as has an old friend. Way back then, I got a brew 'sack' for father's day, from my wife, and my friend got me my first can of extract (to refill the brew sack.) We have both come a long way as homebrewers since then.
I also was in a brew club for several years with some great guys. I would like to start the club again, I was president for a year or two, but had no time to continue it when my kids were quite young, and no one else did, so the club kinda faded away. But, I have kept in contact with several of those guys, and I never really considered it over, more like on hiatus.
In the past couple of years, I have gotten back into brewing as a result of my friends' passing on the hobby to another guy with the same first name. They jokingly call me 'Brew Grandpa' since I was the first one to start. And, some of the newer brewers are really into brewing and very enthusiastic, and great brewers, and have other friends that brew. We have all been getting together to brew, which has been a lot of fun and something we only did a coupe of times in the old club. These guys have gotten me to enter beers in competition, and I have won a ribbon this year and last year. (Not as many as the other guys, but I am happy.) It really helps to have friends brewing and it also helps to get some recognition that placing in a competition provides.
I like to brew whatever I feel like for have ingredients for at the time, so I have brewed a lot of different styles. I get most of my supplies from GFI, in Indianapolis (75 miles from here), so I tend to get all my supplies at once and then brew what I can from that.
Well, that's enough for now....
