Oh, all right, but you have got to work on that courtesy reach-around.

If your in the presido you should be very close to sfbrewcraft. I was given a starter kit from them for my birthday (my "friends" saved a lot of money by getting me addicated to brewing). You can also buy bottles from them if you don't have enough laying around. If you buy a kit from them, they have a free intro to brewing class on Monday nights that you can go to.

The only things I needed after the beginners kit was a 5 gallon pot. In the future you may want a larger pot, but for your first batch you won't be ready to boil the entire 5 gallons of wort and chill it.

There is a restaurant supply store on Clement near 6th (called
Kamei) where I was able to get a cheap 9 gallon stainless steel pot for $50. They also have inexpensive 5 gallon pots.

I'm not sure which is worse, to have several bad homebrew shops nearby or to have one really good one within driving distance. I can count 4 within driving distance, but only 2 really worth going to... In fact I dropped one of the "bad" shops over the weekend, and walked out without even buying anything. AND I had $$ to spend!

Welcome to the forums. Personally I have 2 LHBS that are bothe well stocked but they are both a good 45 min drive from me so I stock up for a few batches when I go to either one. In a yeast emergency I have a hardware down the street that carries nottingham yeast and son=me dme/lme but you got to check Exp. dates when you go...*sigh*.

I didn't know it was that kind of forum. Does that come free with signing up?

Seriously though, thank you everyone for the great responses. I'm going to head to the SF Brewcraft over the weekend. Hopefully I'll get into that Monday night intro class as well.
