Keep an eye on local classifieds for a cheap fridge. Apart from experience a temp controlled ferm chamber is really one of the best things you can do to improve your beer.
I've been looking at the son of a fermentation chiller, but finding the insulation foam is too hard/expensive. I didnt even think of using a fridge (idiot!), theres even a spare one sitting in the garage, I know what Ill be doing when I get some spare time! Thanks a heap! What sort of light did you use? I was looking at using a heat light for a reptile enclosure, but will that give off too much heat/ is it overkill and a standard light will do?

Josh from Western Sydney here.
You near Melbourne? I'll be looking for a beer in Cup Week. Going down on a boys week with guys from work. Prob hit up Beer deluxe and the Taphouse.
Grain and grape is where I got my first fermenter, however its a pain to get to from my place.
I am near melbourne. Beer deluxe is good!

SA has much more stable weather than Vic so it's a bit easier. I have a ferment fridge and that's really it, though occasionally I need to use a heat pad to bring the beer up to the right temp during the colder periods. Or I make lagers. It's been raining just about every day for a couple of months, which is kinda weird over here.
I've had a look at craftbrewer, they look pretty good. I reckon I'll try ordering some stuff from there at some point. Im currently only partial mashing so I dont need a lot of grains, helps with delivery charges!
I'm yet to make a lager, I know the moment I do there will be a run of freakishly warm days!
