Hi all,
Been listening for a year or so. Felt bad about not helping to defray the cost of Justin's lavish lifestyle, so I'm donating now. I'm a Stage Electrician in a pretty busy theatre in Seattle, working six days a week most of the time, so I'm unable to brew as much as I'd like. The beer-geekery here keeps me into the hobby even though I don't get to take part that often.
Thanks to Justin, Jamil, the Johns, Tasty, Doc, JP -everybody on the podacsts. If I ever get anywhere with the half-baked dream of opening a brewery, I will be able to say that everything worthwhile I learned about brewing I learned here. The fact that my wife can ask about pilsner malt and I can say something intelligent about dimethyl sulfide is thanks to you.
I hope to contribute occasionally to the forum, and listen live when I can (which is about once or twice a year - I work sundays, and mondays get filled up), mostly I'll probably have questions.
My first homebrew was a kit red ale fermented in the closet. It was OK but had some hot alcohol flavors that I attributed to fermentation temperature control problems. Batch number 2 (ready for this?) was a munich dunkles cobbled together from Jamil's recipe and what was available from the LHS, fermented in the kegerator for 2 months on the highest setting (about 47F). That one was glorious. I was hooked.
My favorite part about brewing so far? You don't have to do everything right, or even the right way, to make good beer. The beer will help you out of it's own accord.
Thanks all.
Toast
