Altbier confusion

Tue Mar 13, 2007 3:35 pm

Doc, shame on you for not clearing this up for Justin then and there :)

Altbier is fermented cool (not cold), and is then lagered after fermentation. "Lagering" is cold conditioning, not cold fermentation. There is a difference!

That was my understanding of altbiers also.
Too much of a good thing....is a very good thing!

Sorry. I get tired of explaining to people the difference between, "The Brewing of a Lager" and "The Lagering of a brew"

Thanks for clearing that up Dr. Scott.

For a minute there I thought that you were just tired of explaining things to Justin.

Just kidding though. I was listening to the live feed today and it was going through a bunch of the older shows. I never thought that I would admit this but I think we all need to give props to Justin. His knowledge of the brewing process at the begining of the BN compared to where he is at now is like night and day. I never thought that I worthless douchebag could learn so well.

Good job and keep up the great material J.

I never though I would have learned so much. I've gone from extract to all grain to temp control to stirplates to the NHC to Zymurgy and beyond. Thanks for taking the jump Justin.

Cheers

I have to agree with Jaws. I have jumped up so far in my brewing because of the BN. I was doing "kit and kilo" for 13 years. When I heard that Justin could do mini mash and then AG, I knew that I could do it. Thanks J, Doc, Chicken Boy, Daniela (even though you left us  ) and Jamil.
