911 - Trouble downloading archive to iPod

Thu Mar 01, 2007 6:29 pm

I keep getting the following error while trying to sync my ipod:

'FILENAME' was not copied to the iPod 'IPODNAME' because it cannot be played on this iPod.

I have never had this problem in the past. I've listened to every archive through the end of last year on my iPod with no problem. Starting with this years archives, nothing will sync. It is driving me crazy!!! I need my BN on the drive to work each day!

So far I have updated my software to the latest version of iTunes and updated my iPod software. Nothing seems to work.

I'm on dial-up at home, so I download the archives at work (bigger pipe) and bring them home on a thumb drive. Then I add them to iTunes and sync with the iPod. Sounds like a lot of work, but it just took over an hour to download a 16MB update to my iPod software over dial-up.

Someone please HELP! I need my daily BN fix! Also I need to know why Daniela is leaving us and it is locked in the 'bitter/sweet' archive.

Thanks.

The "standard" fix for stuff like this is to connect to iTunes and use the 'Reset to Factory Defaults" feature. This usually solves problems like this.

OK, I just tried the RESTORE option. Didn't work... still getting the same error.

The funny thing is that the files will play on my computer using iTunes, just not sync to the iPod. I do not believe the files are corrupted.

Anymore ideas???

Found another piece of the of the puzzle... All archive starting from January 7, 2007 and on are showing up as MPEG VIDEO as the file format.

All of the other archives I've downloaded (pre-2007) show up as MPEG AUDIO.

Obviously my iPod is choking on the MPEG Video format and I'll have to find a way to convert them.

But is this format change something I did while downloading the file???
Or were the files posted to the archive that way? Justin?

Thanks.

Are you PC or Mac? What OS ver.? Which iPod? Time to iQuit? :)

Can you download the .mp3s directly from the "Archives" page?

I will never iQuit!!! This is the BN... how can you say that? A day without the BN is like a day without the sun!

My last post zeroed in on the problem... the file format changed. It changed from an AUDIO file to a VIDEO file. I am following the process I've used for the past year. I'm betting Justin is posting them to the archive in a different format.

To check the format of your 2007 archives, just right-click it and select properties. Is it an audio file or a video/movie file?

I think push was saying drop the iPod, not quit the BN.

Oh, and mine are mpeg audio files in iTunes.

Try dropping it. Literally.

More proof that iPods and iTunes suck...
