Looks like Ill be going to the Czech Rep for a short visit in a couple of months. Oztrava to be specific. Will obviously fly into Praque. Any suggestions on what breweries to see and visit? I guess there is the big ones, Pilsner Urquel and Budvar. Any secret hidaways?

Also, you may want to try http://www.npivovar.cz/ The service can be a little weird but it is worth working your way through the labrynth....its a real amazing layout! Try the "stinky cheese plate" (as my wife calls it) . Also, you should enjoy Ostrava, its a nice town and all the local beers in the pubs should be fresh. My wife's family lives not far from Ostrava in a small village in Poland. I'm always amazed at how clean and cheap the local beers are.... Have a good time!

Thanks for the advice fellas... Looks like we'll probably just stay in Prague rather than take the train to Ostrava. We'll work out of Prague and hit Pilsen and Budvar.

Justin! Has the 'hat' been to Czech rep yet?

JonesZ,

I will check with my wife and see if we have a pamphlet or hand out from the place whe stayed at in Prague about 8 years ago. It was f'ing fantastic. We stayed in a Penthouse loft in the old town area. The night we flew in and pulled up to the place I about killed my wife, (then girlfriend) as it looked very, very dodgy to say the least. But once we climbed the 5 flights of steps were were greeted with a 700-1000sq ft loft with a full kitchen and bathroom with a massive tub. And sky light windows that we stood in and looked out over the entire city at night. I was great. The place was probably a bit expensive, but man did it rock. All we had to do was go out of the building and we were only say a block from the old town square. I drank a lot of Pilsner Urqell and Budvoice there. I wasn't a homebrewer then, but the beer was unbelievable I will tell you that.

www.travel.cz rents out apartments right in the old town area real cheap. They tend to be in older buildings that will scare the shit out of you if you don't expect it! There great apartments....I've used them a few times. Also, try a resturaunt named "Jachymka" (http://jachymka.crnet.cz/), it's in an old beer factory in the old town....no much left of the factory but they have lots of pictures on the walls of it in operation and you can get a nice "Peèené vepøové koleno" . A "koleno" is a roasted pig knuckle served on a metal frame made especialy for the purpose. It is GREAT with beer! Don't miss it . DRINK DRINK DRINK.

Well, I didn't see the place we stayed in 8 years ago. But I will only echo the scare the shit out of you part again. Especially if you show up at 12pm at night and there is no one around and it is a totally dark street, and the cab driver doesn't speak much English. But, after we got into the building and settled it was awesome.
