First attempt at growing hops. I know, planting in pots isn't an optimal scenario but I'm in a condo so wanted them to be mobile when I move. The white pot is Chinook and the green pot is Cascade. The Chinook was a typical rhizome but the Cascade was 'rooted'. Interestingly, the Chinook came up first and was growing gangbusters but has now leveled off. The Cascade started slow but has now caught up. Oh, these didn't even get into the dirt until the end of April.

:D :aaron I did it! I put my own hops into a beer that I made! :D Granted it was totally out of style, but I had about .75oz of cascade dried weight from my plants that I put in my Guiness clone. I put them in at 30 min so they wouldn't stand out too much. Considering I used 2oz of Kent Goldings at 60 min, I don't think my little addition will kill the flavor. Any way, .75oz of dried cascade, and it's only June. I can't wait to see just how good they will be next year. :drink
Prost!

Here are my hops, growing in north Oakland, CA.

It never gets very humid here, and never super hot, and there's rarely full sun until the fog from the SFbay burns off at about noon. It's not ideal for hop growing, but here's my attempts anyways:

From L->R; F1st year Chinook, 2nd Year Cascade and 1st year Centennial.

The Chinook is going absolutely nuts!

Chinook close-ups:

And, sadly, some disease happening on my Centennial hops in the front yard. The first pic looks like possible potassium deficiency?

Image

This looks like it could be possible downy mildew?

Image

I've tried addressing the Potassium deficiency with some fretilizer, and some of the mold/mildew problems recently with neem.. I'll have to wait
& see if it makes any difference.

Any advice or pointers on the disease problems?

One last pic of the 1st year Cascade hops in the front yard, they're the first
to be showing the beginnings of some flowers:

Speaking of Hop plant diseases...both my Chinook and Cascasde have been infested with Spider Mites. Tiny little bastards! Just doused them with Castile Soap last night and this morning. I'm hoping this knocks them down...

Mine aren't really doing so good. I harvested about an ounce of Fuggles today. I really haven't paid any attention at all to them this year. Hopefully I will get a bit more off the Fuggles. I don't think I am going to get anything at all off of the others. Oh well.

Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza.

Looking good so far travis.
As for my hops, I have harvested about 3.5 oz of dried hops so far. All of that is from my cascades. I haven't been able to get anything from my Hallertau yet, but could get something by Sept. I'll edit some pics in of the baggies that I have so far.
