So is it weird that while working in the basement I always have to piss really bad ... so I just piss in the floor drain and use the hot water heater overflow valve to wash it down?

Why do you need to heat your hot water?

Oh, and I was told by a plumber friend of mine to not mess with the pressure-relief valve on the heater, apparently it'll start leaking if cycled like that often enough. He could be an idiot though.

Why not use the drain valve at the bottom? You'd probably like to get your hands on a petcock anyway.

I have heard some "experts" say to excercise the relief valve 2x per year or so, make sure it dosen't get sticky or something.

I will replace that HW heater with an instant / on demand heater as soon as the old one dies. I probably have 10-15 years left on this one tho
