For the time you've got in the city, Toronado, 21A and Magnolia are a must. Beyond that, check out Thirsty Bear (best German brewpub beer in SF, trust me), Triple Rock in Berkeley (close to Berkeley BART) and take the ferry to Larkspur to hit Marin Brewing. On the way to Triple Rock you can hit Pacific Coast in Oakland (extract brewpub with good beer).

So East Bay one day for Triple Rock and Pacific Coast via BART, Marin via the ferry, and the rest in SF. Also, check out any local pub, the beer available at most places is truly an embarassment of riches with standards like Lagunitas IPA and the fine offerings from Speakeasy.

Have a great trip. If you've got more time, I've got more suggestions.

On a related note, I was mildly surprised to see that Celebrator ranked San Francisco as best beer town #2 right behind Portland. I would've thought Seattle or San Diego would rank higher.

I haven't been to Frisco in four years after regularly traveling there for business for six. The whole bay area was an up and coming craft beer town but was way behind Seattle. Seattle rivals Portland now with all the venues they have. Frisco must have come a long way in a short time.

The real question is can you get from brewery to brewery in the Bay area within a days' time with all of the traffic? Seattle's traffic sucks but pales in comparisson. Don't tell anyone that Portland still has a true rush HOUR.

I know that that's a sore point for locals. I never really understood why.
