Mashing

Thu Oct 30, 2014 7:27 pm

Hi, a partner and I are doing a mashing competition. The objective of the competition is to have a higher OG than any other group. I'm looking for some ideas on how to achieve this? We weren't really given any other specifics for the competition.

Cheers

A super fine, flour-like grind (not crush) & a lot of surface area on the manifold. It's not going to get you a good beer, but you can sure extract the hell out of the mash. If you can, press it. If it's small enough, run it through a coffee filter. Again, the product will be crap for all other purposes, but you can easily get 95%+ extraction.
