Favorite Barleywine

Mon Mar 18, 2013 11:02 am

In preparation for tonight's show (which I expect some awesome DOTW calls) I would like to know everyone's favorite Barleywine.

I really enjoy the JW Lee's harvest ale from various years. Had a 2005 in sherry cask and it was awesome!

I also really liked Cigar City's Church on a Hill. One of the best beers I've ever had but insanely hard to find. I got lucky one day when they had it at the brewery and have never seen it since.

One of my favorite go tos that I can get most of the time is the back burner from souther tier.

I'm going to go to my bottle shop before the show and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions of beers before I go so maybe I'd pick one up I hadn't tried before if it is available.

Rogue Old Crustacean is my favorite, but I'm drinking Stone Old Guardian right now. This one and Old Crustacean have always stood out as my favorites because they have tons of hops which makes the beers less sweet than most other barley wines. I can drink both of those beers by the pint.

Old Ruffian.....Mmmmmm.

I can't get many barleywines where I live, so any barleywine is good when it gets here. Real Ale Brewing Company's Sisyphus is a perennial favorite.

I always like a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. Even fresh that is a great beer.

Victory's Old Horizontal and DFH's Old School Barley Wines come to mind immediately. Rogue's Old Crusty ain't bad either.
