Selling NHC recipes?

Mon Jun 17, 2013 11:58 am

Im looking for some basic information on purchasing award winning beer recipes. Does anyone have any experience in this area? I am starting a small micro-brewery and would be interested in what would be an appropriate selling price. At least one nationally recognized competition is a must, and the more awards the better even if they are local and state competitions. Do you know someone or have any input? thanks gentlemen, and cheers!

Honestly the only person dumber than one trying to buy a recipe is someone trying to sell one.

Edit:

If you're looking for a starting point, there's this book called Brewing Classic Styles. Buy it from the BN store or use the Amazon link on the BN homepage.

The winning NHC recipes are published every year in Zymurgy magazine. No payment needed other than subscribing to the magazine. You can borrow a copy to get around that requirement.

If you do decide to brew one of these commercially, you should give him credit in your advertising and maybe send him some beer or even invite him to help brew his recipe at your brewery.

I take offense at that, Ozwald!
I have a recipe for an amazing, award-winning beer called Brooklyn Bridge Stout.
You buy the recipe, I'll throw in the bridge for a couple two-tree bucks more...
:P
Gimme oysters and beer (and Durian) for dinner every day of the year...
