Am I too late???

Tue Feb 22, 2011 2:09 pm

I want to dry hop in my primary fermenter, am I too late after 14 days? I am hoping to simply add hops. Too late or not? Fermentation seems to be finished, very little hop aroma...(boo........)

You actually want to dry hop once fermentation has slowed or stopped. Go for it.

My pleasure. Since I forgot to mention why in the first post. From what I gather is that if you add hops too early all the CO2 that the yeast are producing will drive off the hop aroma (and thus flavor) and leave you with much less of the sweet hoppiness you seek.

This morning I added all of the leftover hop bits I had floating around. I wasn't very much, about .25 oz EK Goldings, .25 oz Fuggles and .75 oz of Challenger. I'm not sure if it is enough do anything or not, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try. I just added them to my primary. I will rack off after about 7 days (I think...)

Following Matt Brynildson's procedure, make sure you only dry hop in the dark. :asshat:
