BN soldier brew off, along with brewing with style.

Mon Jul 22, 2013 2:54 pm

Hola boys and girls, I just listened to the Bruery episode for back in 2008, and was wondering if any soldiers out there would like to brew up one of the upcoming styles on the Brewing with Style schedule and have our own mini competition. Depending on how many enter we ourselves could form groups to judge the first round, then have the winners send in their beer for the Brewing with Style episode covering that beer style. I just thought this would be a fun little competition to do along with the Brewing with style. If your beer comes out flawed you could send it into Dr. Homebrew.

Sounds like a plan. If JZ doesn't mind I don't mind.

I'd go for that, but I don't see JP committing to it :)

Just an observation, other than the part about sending the winners into BwS, the BN doesn't have to participate at all if they don't wish. It could be a BNArmy thing that we (or you guys rather, I won't be brewing for a while) just do. That being said, I doubt BwS wouldn't want to participate & Dr. Homebrew could just accept it as a general submission, not necessarily as something affiliated with the BNArmy Style Competition Series.

good point Ozwald. I was just trying to think of a fun way to get soldiers to do a little competition and kinda as a best of the best send in a few of the beers to brewing with style episode based on the style of beer we choose. Speaking of which, does anyone have a preference? I was thinking either Cal common, which show is in Oktober, or anything not super spendy or limiting to brewers with less equipmonk such as lagers. Although brewing up an Oktoberfest/Maerzen would be a fun challenge for me, having never brewed a lager.
Any style you guys/girls are particularly interested in? let us all know we can decide within a week or so and all get brewing. Figure we could each send beers to each other then all meet up in the chat sometime to discuss the best beers.

Well, I think I'm going to try and brew up the California common and send it into the brewing with syles episode. Let me know if any of you want to turn in into a small bn competition. If not I'll get my chance at winning that jetski.

I believe on the first episode JZ said they'd be accepting homebrewed examples as well. The show doesn't need to be involved in the actual competition.
