All grain versions - Steep or mash?

In the clone recipes given (and also Brewing Classic Styles) recipes are given for extract + grains and also all grain versions. The specialty grains are stated as "steeping"; my question is when JZ brews all grain is he steeping those grains separately from the base malt or mashing them all together?

I tend to think they are mashing them together unless they specifically say otherwise.

Yes, with all grain, ALL the grains are typically mashed together at the same time, unless the recipe says otherwise.

Yes they should be mashed together, that is actually one of the advantages to all grain. Most specailty grains by themselves do not contain enough diastic power for the starch to sugar conversion process. When mashed to with the base malt the diastic power from the base is used in converson of the startches for the specialty malts, which helps to create a more balanced and well rounded mouthfeel and body for the beer.

The extract versions are from the recipes in Brewing Classic Styles which has a lot of the recipes from the Jamil Show.
