i would boil up the missing water like suggested above and add it back to the fermenter.

this is actually common practice by budweiners. they brew high gravity beers then water it down prior to packaging. thats how they make 3.2%abc beer so weak and 64 calorie beers so watery. that being said you could leave it as a strong ale if it tastes good.

Add the water and keep an eye on your fermentation. Keep the splashing to a minimum as the yeasts have been working for a couple of days and you don't want to introduce oxygen to whatever alcohol they've produced. You should have a nice blanket of CO2 near the wort, but go easy.

Yep - if you're going to do this, this is the way to do it.
