Hitachino Nest Beer is brewed by these guys [Kiuchi Brewery]

The Celabration is wonderful. 9% with no alcohol burn. Just as Bigfood is HUGE and balanced, this beer is subtle and balanced.

If not for the $4 price tag on a 12 oz beer, I would drink this all the time.

I went up to the Hitachino Nest brewery last fall, but no Barleywine on tap. The place is fascinating, and the people are so nice -- I only wish it was closer so I could hang out there more. 8)

I just got an email from the brewer at Hitachino. He seems like a good guy. He was thanking me for saying that I liked his beer. I think it would be great to pick his brain about brewing, he is a 15th generation sake brewer.

So, If you can get his beer, try it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I was lucky enough to try this on tap. Evidently that keg was just one of a very limited amount in the US. It was a month ago, so I can't give a detailed description. I was impressed how balanced it was for a spiced beer. Spices are a main component of this beer but it is never cloying. Definitely a sipper. Freaking tasty. I'll have to pick up a bottle.
