Man this stuff is funky. This is my first bottle of real lambic. I'm not sure I like it. Certainly not Lindemans lol.... This stuff tastes like my sweaty work out shoes smell. It's sour and funky. My palette is still adjusting. I'm drinking it right now. I have another bottle, but it's the "Classic Gueze". I dunno about this stuff. leaves kind of a pleasant taste in my mouth though.

It's an aquired taste. Keep at it. Cantillon is amazing.

IF you can get your hands on Cantillon's Vignerone (sp) this is a good starter in my opinion. But the I havent had a bad beer from them, takes some time to work the palette!

when my pallate tired from the San Diego IPA's it did a complete 180 and started craving sour beers and Cantillon hit the spot. It's now balanced in the middle and I can enjoy a bit of everything.

We were fortunate enough to get to make a trip to Cantillon in early 2004 during an open brew day where they were brewing and giving tours.

I really like Cantillon Gueuze, and I enjoy a lot of sour beers. Like all beer styles there are good and bad sour beers on the market. I think some sour beer fans are a little too quick to worship anything that is sour. No offense here guys, I just think that it's important to taste these beers somewhat critically, just as you would any other beer style.

So last night was my birthday and after a great meal of BBQ, beers and bourbon at Fette Sau in Brooklyn, Aquariumdrinker, my girlfriend and I went across the street to Spuyten Duyvil. They never erase the beers that they don't actually have, so you have to ask for like 3 things before you actually find a beer they have in stock.

Finally we got our 3rd choice: Cantillon Vigneronne made with Muscat grapes. It poured with a wonderful hazy pale glow, and a thick head which dissipated with time. The aroma was not very grapey as I had expected. Quite honestly I would say the aroma was bad. There was a very forward a plasticy phenol thing, and another aroma I can only describe as dirty baby diaper. It did not have the wonderful sour/fruity aroma and horsey brett character that makes lambics so beautiful. The flavor was not so bad, but I literally had to hold my breath every time I stuck my nose in the glass for a drink! I assume this beer was not mishandled, so I am a little miffed because I think Cantillon did not do such a great job on this beer.

Sorry for bitching, but I just wanted to say that while I enjoy sour beers, and I understand what they are supposed to taste like, I don't think they are all worth their weight in gold, and I personally didn't enjoy this one.

I couldn't agree more... you still have to taste that beer in the back. Although, I will say that because of the nature of some of these sour beers, it is very easy for two bottles of the same beer to taste very different. The way that Brett can continue to do it's thing can change each bottle.

I think that people are too quick to praise everything that Cantillon makes as well... sometimes their stuff is not all that great. I personally can't stand their Rosé de Gambrinus. There is just something about it that doesn't do it for me. I've had it on several different occasions and I just don't like it. That's just my tastes... I would rather have a Supplication any day.

Now, that being said, I do have a bottle of their classic gueze at home that I can't wait to try!

man, I feel like a fool...for at least the last 30 years I thought Brooklyn was in the united states...
