Bier & cake pairing.......... HELP!!!

Wed Oct 29, 2014 1:39 pm

Sup brewing family,

I just got invited to do and bier & cake pairing next month on the 15th and I'm brewing tomorrow!!!

As I 'm sure whoever is reading this knows I have a very small window of time to work with.

So the cakes I'll have to pair with are, a strawberry cake with white chocolate buttercream and a chocolate ginger mango passion fruit cake.

My thinking are something low in abv & low IBU 's and something in the brown range not wheat.

I love you guys and gals, thanks for any advice y'all can kick down!

BN for life!!! :drink

Thanks BDawg that would be great!

And Bad Goat thank you also but, there is no way in hell that I'm going to be serving up my RIS that I brewed last December for this December! Plus the timing would never work.

Going to look into doing an English mild or brown Ale, most of the people attending are not so bier savvy ..............

I would think something very dry or with a pronounced bitterness (without the overwhelming American hop flavor) would go best. I wouldn't enjoy the sweet on top of sweet too much myself. I'd prefer something contrasting to create an overall balance between the 2. Maybe that's just me. I'm not a big dessert fan though.

Other than a saison, an ESB comes to mind... but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around either of those cakes, especially the second one.

Thanks a lot Ozwald. The friend that is throwing the event is a "master baker". She is always coming up with very interesting cakes, which are mostly vegen. Whatever I'm just happy to be serving up my swill. Brew day was great hit my numbers pitched the yeast and now time to have a well earned wet /fresh hopped Ale with my home grown Cascade & Centennial. Thank you all for your advice and I'm sure y'all be hearing from me soon.

I emailed Nate and he said he'd pass it on to Nicole and Paxton (I didn't have their email addresses).
