ale equivalent to the doppel brown?

Tue Dec 25, 2012 6:24 pm

Hey Brewers,

The other day I tried a doppel brown at our local brewer and loved it, actually it might be one of my favorite brews to date. I'd like to brew a doppel in the future but for now is there an ale equivalent to the doppel brown? I did some research and found some information saying that a scottish ale might be similar to a dopple brown, or an AMerican brown ale.

Any comments or suggestions?

My first suggestion would be to touch base with the brewer. They may just provide you with the recipe, or at least get you going in the right direction.

Try Scotch ale. That will get you pretty darn close as an ale style, with a lot of the similar caramel and raisiny malt notes.
