Hefeweizen Question

Mon Sep 18, 2017 6:57 am

Hello all,

I brewed my 2nd batch last night, which is Bavarian Hefeweizen from Northern Brewers. Although a very easy recipe, I screwed by adding the dry wheat extract at the beginning of the boil (60 min) compared to the last 15 min of the boil. I fermented anyways but would like to know what would be the effect of this (Taste/color or anything). I didn't want to throw away the wort, guess I would taste a different flavor compared to Hefe.

Any words of wisdom going forward!

Ravi.

That won't be a problem at all.
"Extract late" wasn't something I tried until several years after I began brewing. Don't sweat it, it will be fine.

It will be a little less bitter as the gravity for most of the boil was higher. That should be it.

Yeah, no worries. I wouldn't bat an eye at that one.

It won't grow 3 heads, I promise... don't sweat it. The only negative I can assume is kettle caramelized from improper mixture of extract
