Never using whole hops again

More Beer was out of centennial pellets when I went to grab the ingredients for my last brew. I grabbed the whole hops instead thinking I needed to leave with something (it didn't occur to me then that they were only my dry hops and I could have come back). Added them about a week ago and didn't realize that they do not sink like pellets do. I figured that was fine and the hoppy character just wouldnt be quite as intense. Well, I went to keg last night and they totally clogged my siphon and I left behind somewhere between a half gallon and a whole gallon.

There are ways around it, but yeah, they are kind of a pain in the ass even if you plan ahead for them. The only way I'll use them anymore is if they're fresh homegrown & in a hop back.

If my hop plants can survive this crazy heat we are having in SoCal, I am definitely using those in something. Other than that, I just don't think its worth it. The beer tastes great and has awesome aromas, but it's kinda a pain in the butt. It was cool to hold, smell, and rub them haha.

I prefer to use whole hops in the wort because they don't interfere at knock out, but pellet hops excel for dry hopping. And if some of the pellet hop debris comes over when I keg it falls out in the yeast mud, so who cares.
