Leaf Hop Dry Hopping

Excess trub, loss of beer, and clogged racking canes from whole leaf dry hopping is a pain.

As a hop grower with 150 hills, I have been looking for a solution. What I found worked surprisingly well was grinding the whole hops in a old Corona mill and adding them to a carboy. The aroma and taste from the dry hopping is fantastic. The hop particles settled mostly in the trub, not on top, with daily swirling.

Damn, now I have to experiment with kettle hops.

Basically the same as pellets, without actually compressing them into the pellets. When you add pellets to your boil/fermenter they break down into shredded hop matter. I'd definitely toss them in the kettle like that. Give it a few more years & I'll be waiting for the hop extruder build pics

I was hoping the dry hopping would be as good as pellets, but it seems more intense. My hops never see heat to dry, just circulating ambient air.
Hop Extruder........I have to borrow a power grinder with a hole plate, next season! LOL
