How to use Grains of Paradise?

I am looking to brew a beer with grains of paradise... Curious if I just throw them in the pot, or do I grind them? Can't seem to find that in any of my brew books.

Crack or grind them... otherwise you're just rinsing the outside off.

I put them in a plastic sandwich baggie and smash them with a hammer until they are fairly crushed (but not like powder). They add a very interesting lemony pepper sort of flavor and aroma to the finished product. I like to add them with about 2-5 minutes left in the boil to keep their characteristics in the forefront. Great for finishing a saison!

grains of paradise

1.to the bubble, with 30 mins left of a 90 min bubble

2. 2 grams, pulverized with mortar and pestle

3. very pleasant. the peppery/flavor notes slice through well

4. strawberry season

5. wyeast french Saison yeast

6. not a damn thing

cinnamon

1. post-aging, to the barrel

2. 2ozs

3. very strong.

4. nut dark colored beer

5. Wyeast American beer 2

6. presumably just a large portion of the cinnamon.

pomegranate, I've never fermented with yet my most loved approach to include product of any sort is to pound it up or mix it and strain it, at that point solidify it, and add it to optional. in the previously mentioned season, I utilize three pounds of strawberries for each 5 gallons, and it's wonderful. In my wheat beer, I utilize 1.5 lbs of lemons and 1 lb of oranges, and that is really powerful. in any case, it's what I'm shooting for in that brew.
