Pilsner Liquid Malt Extract equivalent

Apologies if this has been asked before.
But, as a UK homebrewer and owner of "How to Brew" and "Brewing Classic Styles" a lot of the recipes call for Pilsner liquid malt extract ... something we don't have available here in the UK.
Is there a way of getting a similar end result when brewing from the extract recipes from these books, when I can't use that exact ingredient?
I'm thinking of using some Light DME or LME with some steeped Carapils for example? If so, what proportions of steeped grains would anyone recommend for 1kg of DME or LME to get as close to the Pilsner LME that is available?
I appreciate that this will not be comparable to the actual product, I'm looking to get as close as possible with the ingredients that are available here.
Thanks in advance.

Is there any way you could get some Weyermann extracts from Germany?
http://www.weyermann.de/eng/gh.asp?go=d ... &sprache=2Those are the wholesalers in the UK.

The Munton's Extra Light would get you fairly close.

Cheers. Looked at that producer and they do sell 4kg for £36 which is quite steep, but worth it if I wanted to make a quality pilsner from extract. On the other hand, at that price it may push me towards going all grain!

Wecome to the forum!
Just curious, would either Northern Brewer or More Beer be able to ship to the UK? They both package an extra light "pils" style liquid malt extract. I understand the shipping costs might be prohibitive, but I am not familiar with the customs regulations on shipping food products into the UK and any tax or tariff that might be involved.
Another possibility would be the Coopers light liquid malt extract. Aussie product and has tested as one of the most feremntable extracts available. I've used it with great result in many of the BCS recipes. Your local homebrew shop should be able to get any Coopers products for you, check their website for your local availability.
hope this helps,

Thanks for the welcome.
Shipping from the US would be really prohibitive. Also no idea about foodstuffs and importing?
Seems after catching up on some Brew Strong podcasts that you can't replicate pilsner extract using pale malt and steeping grains. Needs a mini mash, all grain or Pilsner LME. May need to re-think my set up. Mini mash with the balance as LME may be the way to go.

Making a good pils from extract is a tall order. It is the desire for quality that should be pushing you towards all grain. With all grain the materials are indeed less expensive but the cost of the additional equipment (i.e. the mashing gear) must of course be borne.
