Protafloc dosage

I have a question regarding the use of Protafloc tablets. I started using Protafloc about half a year ago, and have been using the stuff in the form of tablets. My beers end up nice and clear, but the trub in my boil kettle never seems to settle out properly, it doesn't pack down very well after cooling, which leaves me with less wort in the frementor than I would like. I use a Jamil-style cooler, and I add one Protafloc tablet to six gallons in the boil 15 minutes before the end. I usually let the wort rest for 30-60 minutes after cooling/whirlpooling. Am I using too much Protafloc? Should I adjust the pH in my kettle to achieve better settling? Or should I go for a different type of kettle fining?

Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.

I think 1 tablet for 6 gallons is too much. Too much kettle finings can be just as detrimental (or worse) to your trub cone than using too little or none at all.

Try using 1/3 to 1/2 of a tablet and see if that gives you better results. Also try adding it later in the boil @ 5 mins or 10 mins.
