getting water tested?

Now that I've finally done my 1st all grain brew, I'm thinking I should have my water tested (should have it done for non-brewing reasons already, so might as well consider it for brewing too).

I know nothing about water chemistry issues, ph, adding gypsum, etc.

We have private well water.

What should I be looking for should I get my water tested? I think we last had the water tested right after moving in 8 years ago and the results came from Woods Hole down on Cape Cod.

You want to send a sample to Ward Labs. http://www.wardlab.com/FeeSchedule/WaterAnalysis.aspx
You want test W-6. All you need to do is fill a half liter water bottle with your tap water and send it in. The $16.50 fee is well worth it. You can even ask them to email you with the results and you can have your report in just a couple of days.
