Slight (I hope) mistake at the supply store...

I'm going to brew my 1st all grain batch on Saturday morning, and since I've got several friends that looooooooooove wheat beers, I chose to make Jamil's American Wheat recipe in "Brewing Classic Styles." When I got to my brew supply store, there was a huge pile of glass carboys in front of the malt dispensers, so I asked an employee to fill my grain bags (so I wouldn't be the one who knocked over several hundred dollars worth of glass). I got my 6 pounds of 2-row without incident, but the 6 pounds of wheat malt was a different story - he filled the bag up, went to check the weight (it was at about 4 pounds), then came back and dumped about 1/4-1/2 of a pound of pilsner malt into the wheat malt bag before I realized that he was dumping the wrong stuff into my bag.

I didn't want to be a dick, so I bought the stuff and brought it home. I'm just wondering what I can expect from that mystery amount of pilsner malt - I honestly have no idea exactly how much he got in there. I'm brewing it either way, just looking for what to expect....

You should end up with a beer not too far off from what you intended to brew. I don't think you have enough pils malt to justify a longer boil, so just go with it. That said, it's total bullshit that they didn't toss that grain right away and start over. It's not like that was even an expensive mistake, the guy who did that is most likely a lazy prick. I hope to god that wasn't a widely known establishment like there happens to be in your area.

It's one of two small brew supply stores in my town. The big guys you might be thinking of (Midwest Supply or Northern Brewer) are about an hour east of me. This shop has been really cool to me in the past (gave me a new Wyeast pack when mine didn't activate, even without a receipt among other things) so I don't want to trash talk them too much. I think it was an honest mistake and the guy who helped me spends more time in the computer/iPod/RC car section of the store than in the beer/wine making section.

Maybe it will be the best beer ever...

It will be just fine. IMO, you really won't be able to tell the difference with such a small amount in the grand scheme of things.

yeah you'll be fine, its barely any grain and even if it gives any flavor contribution its Pils...not like he dumped roasted barely in there or anything.

Hey thanks fellas, you've eased my mind. I usually wouldn't sweat something like this, but it's my first all grain batch... I kinda want it to be magically perfect... :unicornrainbow:

Don't you mean, a "magical prefect", Hagrid?
The guys at nitro are nice, but they dont brew. Greg(I think) is the owner and there is another old timer there, that have been super helpful to me in the past. They are judges and brewers. Good guys. As far as the malt goes, dont worry about it. It will be fine. Just focus on the process and getting used to your new toys.
We should probably get together for a beer sometime as well. Thursdays and Fridays pff, for me. Plus Sat and Sun. afternoon. Needa hand?
