Wyeast pitch rate/growth calculator & Mr Malty

Hi,

For my propagator pack the WY calculator tells me I need 0.19 gallons (0.72 litres) as a starter for my 4.88 (18.47 litre) batch for 6million cells per ml. Mr Malty has the viability capability (either as a % or by date of manufacture) and also has estimated OG factored in. It says I need a 1 litre starter. So possibly the resultant .28 litre difference. albeit relatively small, is affected by those configurable factors. But I'm not really sure whether to interperate its calculations as being based on an activator or propagater pack.

Could somebody tell me how the WY calculator factors-in yeast viability and what is your your opinion on relative merits compared with the Mr Malty calculator.

Thanks.

I had noticed that they give difference answers when WY came out with their yeast calculator. If I where you I would stick with one and learn from your own brews so you can stay consistant.
