shes a wild wild rice

going to do an pale ale with wild rice as an adjunct, added to the mash, I was thinking adding about 1/2lb, anyone ever experiment with this with good results.

I haven't done this, but it sounds good as long as your hops don't overpower the taste of the wild rice. Since I'm also a food geek for a living I might mention that wild rice isn't even rice. It is a variant of buckwheat. This should have some nice flavor while rice has almost none. Just be sure to cook it to gelatinize the starches.

I remember from college botany that wild rice is a monocot in the Poaceae family - the grass family, just like regular rice. Buckwheat is a dicot in the Polygonaceae family - the buckwheat family.

I believe Randy Mosher talks about this in his Radical Brewing book. I think he used the "rice" in a pilsner with good results.
