Wet/Fresh Hop Presale

Here is the deal we will be having Fresh off the vine hops being shipped in directly from the grower. These hops have not been dried and are perfect for a Harvest/Wet Hop/Fresh Hop brew. Of course not many home brewers have access to hops like these, unless you grow your own hops. The hops will be shipped to us over night within 24 hours of being harvested. We will be selling these hops in 1 lb increments only. Typical usage for wet hops is 5 ounces of wet to 1 ounce of dried hops so a pound really does not go that far.

We will have Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Simcoe, and Citra available for pre order at $20 per lb. We will only be purchasing what has been pre ordered so you have to order them before hand. We still have about 3 weeks before the deadline of August 10th. Each variety will have to be paid for separately and shipping will be charged on each order since the hops will not all be arriving on the same day. If for some reason they do we will of course refund the shipping charges on orders that are shipped together.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Ed

I've never seen any homebrew shop selling and shipping fresh hops. Thanks for putting this together.

I plan to buy at least 2 pounds.

What kind of impact on IBU would they have? The same as 1 dry oz?

Yes that is very close to the same IBU impact. The wet hops weight a lot more per cone so there are less cones in a pound of wet than dried hops.

Thanks,

Ed

Yellowthere - I have never heard of this either, which is why I jumped at the chance to do it.

Water is the difference. If you search the archives for wet hops, you'll find a wet hops show with Colin K. Where he walks you through taking a sample of the wet hops weighing them, then baking them in the oven for ~20 min (don't remember the temp), Then you weigh the sample again after drying out the water (doing a percent difference) to get the approx water percentage. Generally I believe that pellet hops are about 10% water (that's in the interview with Colin too), so use that as your benchmark in making conversions to wet hops.

You could do that or just use them for flavor and aroma, which is what I'm planning to do. It's not wet-hop only, but I want to get the most out of the wet hops.

5 to 7 oz of wet hops = 1 oz dry hops. You will use a lot more wet hops by weight for a given batch. Do the math. It is a shitpile of wet hops. I brewed a wet hop beer with homegrown cascade at about 5 oz wet to 1 oz dry ratio and it turned out great. Listen to the wet hop podcasts and make your own decision.
Good luck! :jnj

I just put together my wet hop IIPA recipe for when these come in. I am using a somewhat insane 110 oz. of wet hops in the recipe.

All times are UTC - 8 hours
