hello.
i used jamil's yeast pitch calc for a helles i am making. jamil's site says for a 1.044 i need to use 4 vials of yeast in 1 liter of wort.
i can build up the yeast. if i make a 1 liter of 1.040 and use a stir plate letting it set for 3 days, decant, and make a 1 gallon of 1.040 and let that go for 3 days, that will give me enough yeast for my beer, right?

Slide the triangle at the bottom of the PRC to the right. You can make a 3.5L starter with 1 vial using a stir plate.

ahhh! that is what that does.

but i cant put one vial into 3 liters. i should build it up in multiples of 10 i thought? if that is true, how long do i wait for it to ferment out at each step?

The vials are very condensed. In one of the early yeast shows, Jamil and/or Chris White recommended a minimum starter of 2 liters.

I routinely do 2 vials into 2 gallons starter.

All times are UTC - 8 hours
