Ok all this talk about lager yeast got me to thinking what about ale yeast that turns out lager style beer. I have had pretty good results with nottingham by danstar at around 70 degree temps just wondered if any one had tried fermenting in the lower range of this yeast. The web site says it is good down to about 57 so that is getting close to the 60 degrees or what not. Anybody else got any good ale yeasts that seem to produce lager style beers? Reason for asking this is I wanted to use the 2565 from wyyeast but I am running out of time and money for getting it and it being ready for when i want it. But I do have a packet of nottingham anybody see any reason why this yeast would not work?

Koelsh and Alt are ales that are fermeted similar to lagers, only the primary fermentation temp is a little higher (upper 50s lower 60s). The beer is then "lagered" similar to true lagers.

If you are looking for making a clean beer with fermentation temps in the mid 60s, try Cali Ale (WY 1056) and keep the secondary colder (low to mis 50s)
