I made a starter yesterday of WLP001. 2 Liter starter into 1.040 wort as usual. At the start of boil I went to add the Foam Control and didn't pay attention and squeezed the bulb too hard and put probably eight or more drops into the 2L flask. It has been on the stir plate from almost a day and there appears to be no activity.

All things being equal, is it possible that too much foam control can cause a problem?

** The other thing I noticed is that there was no carbonation in the vial when I opened it. Could have been dead to start with? **

Check the gravity after a couple days. If it has gone down it's working.

I let it sit over night in the basement and it seems to have finally kicked off. Looks like it will be OK to brew with today. I certainly drank enough HomeBrew yesterday to appease the brewing gods!
