Need help choosing freezer size

I'm planning on getting a chest freezer in the near future to use as a fermentation chamber. I'd like to hold 4 carboys in there at a time. I'll probably put each carboy in a milk crate first so I have handles to hold the things by. So my question is what volume or freezer would I need to accommodate four milk crates at a time? Thanks guys

Hard to say for sure, but it will be a big one - probably up around 11 ft^3 or bigger.

The way to know for sure is to take either cardboard cutouts of what you want to put in there, or the actual milk crates, and pile them in there and see what fits.

I don't have a car and just can't be bothered to take transit to the other end of town to figure this out. Just the area of the bottom and the area of a milk crate would help loads.

There are different manufacturers and different configurations even when the cubic footage is the same. My 7.2 ft^3 GE freezer just barely holds 2 carboys or 4 cornies. A different model with the same volume may have a wider but shallower shelf that would drop me down to 1 carboy or 3 cornies.

I suppose you could call the store, find out what makes and models they have, then get on the manufacturers websites to get the internal dimensions, then order the one you want and wait for it to show up on a truck.

Might be easier and faster to take the bus ride with your circles and squares of construction paper to the store, lay them out in several models, pick the one that fits best. Might even be able to ride home in the truck with it :)

I think I'll promise a friend with a car some brew to drive me around town. That's starting to sound like the best option.
