sorry to jump back to the middle of the thread but. . . .

on the topic of boiling vs oven. The thing about boiling is that you are not sterilizing the bottles, only sanitizing. You can boil forever, essentially, and still not kill all of the bacteria, specifically the ones that form spores. Using an oven is kinda along the same lines as a autoclave. If used correctly both will sterilize the bottles.

get a fat ass pressure cooker... take a tip from YEARS of canning... you find one tall enough and you got sterile bottles without all the 'chems'.. and honestly glass needs to be anealed down during glass blowing due to it's working temp.. once it get's down closer to 400degrees it's much more stable..

edit: plus you got yourself an autoclave for growing yer yeasties in testies..

Oh PS about the Iodophor... that is what they use in dairys and milk processing, so it must not be too bad :)

Iodophor is basicly a formulation of free iodine.

"The United States Food and Drug Administration recommends 150 micrograms of iodine per day for both men and women. This is necessary for proper production of thyroid hormone. Natural sources of iodine include sea life, such as kelp and certain seafood, as well as plants grown on iodine-rich soil. Salt for human consumption is often fortified with iodine and is referred to as iodized salt."
