What size chest freezer(s)?

Wed Apr 23, 2008 4:34 pm

I've got some tax refund money coming and I have a dilemma...

If you had to choose between two 7.2 cu. ft. chest freezers or one 14.8, what would you do?

I'm leaning toward two small ones because I could lager in one and serve from another. Plus, easier to move and could keep them in different locations. Downside is that I'd need two temp controllers and probably couldn't fit quite as many kegs. By the way, how many cornies can you cram into each size freezer?

Fuck it... get three! One for fermenting ales, one for fermenting lagers, and one for serving! A homebrewer can not have enough refrigeration.

No shite! :D

Unfortunately, the wife says 2 small or 1 large... Uh, I don't think I said that quite right... She will let me purchase 2 small freezers or 1 large freezer.

(I already have a single tower kegerator I got years ago in college.)

Come on, just flash that chin of yours at her, she'll melt away, and you can buy anything you want...

The chin only gets you so far...
How do you think I even got these options in the first place?

I used a 14.8 cubic foot Fridgidaire.

I can fit 10 kegs in it, but that is with a collar, which raises the lid so I can fit 2 on the shelf

So without the collar it would be 8.

Cool, thanks... I wonder, does that mean 4 kegs max in a 7.2?

I'm sure someone who knows will chime in, but I'd think maybe 3 kegs w/ a 5 lb co2 tank on the bump.

I'm looking at a 6 cu ft freezer on craigslist and that's what I'm thinking.

And I'd go the 2 smaller freezer route myself.
