I recently bought a top-tier from Blichmann and had no problems, I also bought the conical from them a couple of years ago and had no problems with getting it.

If you do get a conical and not from Blichamann, the More-Beer ones look good.

The top tier system is made from T-slot extrusion. It can be bought from a number of places. While you would need to make your own base it can be done. I have used such systems to make a number of items.

You can use the same items and I bet you can build less than $500.

I have a good bit of 1in 25mm T-slot myself that I will make use of when I build a brew stand.

8020 is awesome! It's pretty expensive but you can make 1000 and 1 things with it!

I discovered some issues with Blichmann kettles and equipment, so I am exploring the PychoBrew System (http://www.psychobrewllc.com/pages/systems.html), and Stout Kettles 1 BBL equipment (http://conical-fermenter.com/about/atta ... ng-system/). It's expensive equipment, but you only live once.

Hope these resources are useful.

Here's the correct link to Stout Tanks & Kettles.

I've spent a fortune with Blichmann this spring & I'm starting to notice some issues myself. Beyond their quality control being a huge joke, even some of the 'good' stuff I've gotten is starting to prove less than ideal.

Let me know how the Psychobrew stuff works out if you choose to go that route. I don't mind spending money on building a dream system, but I expect it to look good & actually work for the cost. If I wanted to save money or buy scratch n dent, I would've gone that way in the first place, ya know?

Don't understand about the whining about Blichmann products. Are they worth waiting thru the backorder problem. Yes! I run a 20-20-30 TopTier System w/natural gas. The Tower of Power control module is installed on my March pump. I don't have or need the bells and whistle pump and flow stand or a module on my HLT. It is simple to eyeball the autosparge recirculation stream to know where you are as far as flow @ 10 minute intervals and readjust as necessary. It takes all the diddle dicking around to control mash temp away. It is a freaking breeze to do temp rest, mash temps, and mashouts. It is a fantastic way to mash while eating a pizza or playing in the BN chatroom. Blichmann equipment cleans up easily! Steal my car, take my cat, my nag, but don't even think about my TopTier setup!
