I've seen that people are using many twines to support their hop trellices. However, I'd like to know what people have used successfully. I've used cotton type of clothesline to grow cucumbers and zucchini. Is this stuff adequate for hops?

I use cheap sisal twine from Home Depot, I think baling twine would work fine too. I wouldn't use cotton as it will stretch.

try to find nylon baling cord. perfect stuff. wont strech or dry out in the sun. hop vines can attach very well also. look for it at hardware supply stores or feed stores.

I used metal cable. I'm on year 3 with this stuff and it's going strong....

I fastened them around a concrete block and buried it for the anchor....

I used jute (hemp) garden twine only to find out that it deteriorates over the season and I was re-stringing hops in the late summer. I will let you guess how happy I was about that. I re-strung them with the rough blue nylon string stuff.

Freshops sells some during the spring, supposedly the same that hop farms use.

I have been using a spool of the Freshops coconut-fiber twine that I got with my rhizomes about 6 years ago (unfortunately, only my Cascades survived the first Winter)... that stuff is extremely sturdy and durable, I'm still using the original spans that I strung. It's very coarse, so the bines can attach and spiral along it easily.
