I have some beer in my Spiedel fermenter that I need to keg and want to harvest the yeast. It has a spigot at the bottom (on the side) and I'm trying to figure out how is the best way to go about getting the yeast out. I have it tipped back right now so that the yeast is away from the spigot but I'm gonna have to move it before I transfer to the kegs. Would it be better for me to tilt it when I move it so that the yeast is piled up around the spigot and try to get it out first or try to get the beer out first and then go back and swirl up the cake to harvest yeast?
by the way, I plan on transferring the beer through the spigot, not siphoning

I've got a 60L Speidel fermenter and I rack the clear beer off the yeast cake using the spigot before harvesting the yeast. I would worry that trying to transfer the yeast cake through the spigot would take too long or result in a stuck transfer.

How do you harvest, if I may ask?

After racking, I carefully tip the Speidel back so the yeast cake is away from the spigot. I unscrew the spigot, spray the outside of the threads with Star San, then pour the yeast cake into a large sterilized jar. I then perform a yeast rinsing in the large jar.

I see, that sounds like it would work MUCH better than trying to get it through the spigot like I had planned. Thanks for the tip!
